Sample Sports Skills session for Mid School

STEP THREE

Dribbling & Dribbling in moves

Coaching points:

* Use your fingertips to dribble, never the palm.

* Dribble such that the ball is always under control. Dribble on the side of your body, Front and back is always used for crossover

* Be on your toes while dribbling the ball.

Game Play:

* Divide the students into four teams.

* Each team to have one ball.

* First child starts dribbling in a zig-zag and the task turns from the cone – Not around the cone but closest to the cone.

* Uses right hand while taking turn from right side and uses left hand while taking turn from left side.

* Takes turns from the last cone and dribbles back straight, passes it to the partner and joins at the back of the file.

* The rhythm of dribbling with alternate hands should be smooth rather than focusing on the speed.

* Continue the relay drill of dribbling by making chest passes to the partners and increase the pace depending on the competency level.

 

Next Step:

* Play a game of basketball using full/half courts.

* Focus on correct technique of dribbling.

* Every player should dribble at least 4 steps before passing the ball.
