SPORTING SKILLS

SPORTING SKILLS As all sports are asymmetric in nature (use only one side of the body), it is imperative to train children on both sides (ipsilaterally and contra laterally) for a holistic development. Every child, irrespective of their inclination  towards sports, has to learn certain sporting skills that enhance cognitive value of movement. This is achieved using several innovative drills and activities that make the students familiar with the movements in relation to the sport as well as at home with the implements. We do not coach the rules of any sport or make them play any sport. We however facilitate the learning of sports specific skills for volleyball, basketball, racquet sports, football and cricket. Classes 6 to 8 will have one period of Sporting skills   The Maverick Physical Literacy Curriculum is a preparatory program for facilitating students to become willing movers. In addition we recommend time is allotted during the week for competitive games for classes 6 upwards – a choice to participate in any one of their preferred sports – racquet games (badminton, shuttle, tennis), ball games (volley ball, throw ball, basket ball), Cricket, Hockey, Football, Table Tennis or athletics. The foundation of physical literacy derived during the Maverick sessions, will aid in making even the non-sports person competent to stay in the field longer.
